Dr Lucy Pocock
Lucy is an academic GP and co-leads the University of Bristol’s Palliative and End of Life Care Research Group. Formerly a teacher, Lucy retrained to work as a doctor in 2005 and she is now practicing as a GP in South Gloucestershire. Lucy is the Chief Investigator for the SHIPS Study, which forms the basis of her NIHR-funded Doctoral Fellowship.
Dr Lucy Selman
Lucy is Professor of Palliative and End of Life Care in the School of Population Health Sciences, University of Bristol, and co-leads of the University of Bristol’s Palliative and End of Life Care Research Group. Lucy is the founding director of Good Grief Festival and is Lucy Pocock’s primary PhD supervisor.
Professor Sarah Purdy
Sarah is Emeritus Professor of Primary Care at the University of Bristol. Over the past 25 years she has combined her clinical career as a GP with education, research and leadership in the NHS. Sarah has previously lead research exploring unscheduled care use and avoidable hospital admissions. She is part of Lucy Pocock’s PhD supervisory team.

Professor Stephen Barclay
Stephen is Professor of Palliative Care at the University of Cambridge. He has worked clinically as a General Practitioner for over 30 years and as an Honorary Consultant Physician in Palliative Care at the Arthur Rank Hospice for 25 years. He leads the Primary Care Unit’s Palliative and End of Life Care group PELiCam and the teaching of Palliative Care in the Medical School. His research focuses on Palliative and End of Life Care in Primary Care. Stephen is part of Lucy Pocock’s PhD supervisory team.
